CISV Atlanta Newsletter – Summer 2005
I was very fortunate to be invited by the Maine chapter to help staff a village this past summer in Old Town, Maine. We called it the Peace is… Village. The theme allowed us to set the environment for the village and helped maintain a focus on the types of activities that supported the idea of what peace is to different people.
From water balloon tosses to egg parachutes, to excursions to the lake or ocean, to the House of Feelings, to the all-American tradition of buying ice cream from an ice cream truck; fun and adventure was had by all. The bonding that takes place between delegates, leaders, Junior Counselors and staff can sometimes be hard to explain or understand, but life-long friendships are formed and a higher level of understanding different cultures is achieved.
If the opportunity ever comes along for you to participate in the Village experience, I hope you take advantage of it and learn, as many of us have, that it is an experience of a lifetime.
