2006 National Board Meeting

Every year at the end of October, all the chapters and steering committees in CISV USA meet at our National Board Meeting (NBM) to review our past year, talk about things going on, and plan for our future.  This year was particularly special because it was the year we were given full Chapter status.  Our 2006 NBM theme was “Building Global Friendship: You can do it.  We can help.”

We met from Thursday, October 26 through Sunday, October 29, 2006 in Ft. Mitchell, KY at the Drawbridge Inn.  Four meetings were held at the same time: Board of Trustees Meeting, Youth Board Meeting, the National Adult Meeting (NAM), and National Leadership Training (NLT).  In 2004, we sent 7 delegates to represent our Interest Group and we came back having been granted Steering Committee Status.  In 2005, we sent 12 delegates.  In 2006, we sent 14 delegates and 1 to National Leadership Training at NBM.  Here’s the website from 2006’s NBM.  Atlanta represent!!!

2005 National Board Meeting

We attended the 2005 National Board Meeting (NBM) in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky on October 27-30.  Fun was had and work was done by all!  There were 12 of us representing our Atlanta Area Steering Committee, and we came bearing a gift...actually an item for the CISV Silent Auction.  The stain glass below was created by Lisa Prodigo-Nimorwicz, friend and supporter of CISV Atlanta Area.  We had 2 representatives in the Adult Board Meeting, 5 in the Youth Board Meeting, 4 in the 2nd Annual National Adult Meeting, and our very own Local Leadership Trainer (LLT) in the brand-new LLT Training Workshop.  Next year’s NBM will be October 26-29.

2004 National Board Meeting

We attended the 2004 National Board Meeting (NBM) in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky on October 21-24.  At the NBM, Phil Long, National Expansion Chair, introduced the motion to recognize our Atlanta Area Interest Group as a Steering Committee.  Tait Anberg, our Atlanta Area President, introduced our Interest Group, gave a bit of history about its beginnings, and then gave the PowerPoint presentation created by Tanya Fields.

Closed session was called and we were asked to step outside of the Board Room while the Board discussed our candidacy.  While in the hallway, Jon Hawley (Maine) had us playing “Guardian Angel / Arch Enemy” to pass the time.  Thanks Jon!

We were soon invited back into the Board Room and Sharon Lipps, National President, announced that we had been approved as an official Steering Committee of CISV USA.  Sharon presented us with our Steering Committee certificate and Phil presented us with our very own CISV Flag.

Phil then proceeded over to our Chapter Trustee seats and turned up Melissa Ribeiro’s, Senior Trustee, and Lisa Howe’s, Junior Trustee place cards and sat our Steering Committee Trustees at the Board Room table.

Other News…

Hilary Leland, Chapter Secretary and Junior Branch Advisor, attended the National Youth Meeting as our Steering Committee’s Adult Chaperone for our Junior Branchers.  Kimber Arrington, Chapter Vice President and Travel Chair, and Tait Anberg attended the first ever National Adult Meeting (NAM).

We had two of our very own Junior Branches representing us at the National Youth Meeting (NYM): Tim Banning and Anjellica Miller.  Tim applied for two NYM positions for next year and Anjellica got a healthy does of what NYM and NBM are all about.
