Interchange - 12-15 year olds

Interchange is a family-centered, international exchange that usually involves a one month visit over two consecutive summers. During the first summer, a delegation of ten young people (five boys and five girls) and an adult leader visit partners of the same age, sex and general interests in another country. For the following summer, the delegation becomes hosts to its partners for another four-week visit. In some instances, an entire Interchange is completed in one summer, with consecutive three-week visits to each country.

This program encourages a deeper understanding of another culture by enabling young people to live as family members.  Group activities involving all participants are also a vital component of Interchange.  Although it offers a very different approach from a camp model, Interchange is based on the same educational principles.

The family plays a vital role in the Interchange Program. Each participant lives in the host partner's house which allows the participant to become a member of the family. This program enables not only the participants, but the entire family, to form lasting friendships and learn about different ways of life, social structures and cultures.

Delegations experience typical family life and also meet for group activities throughout the month.

Interchanges can be for age groups 12-13, 13-14 or 14-15.

Duration: 2 to 4 weeks for each of the 2 phases of the Interchange.  Interchanges take place over 1 of 2 years.
