Junior Counselor - 16-17 year olds

Each Village has six Junior Counselors (except Villages with 9 delegations which have 4 JCs).  Junior Counselors must be 16 or 17 years old on the day of the departure for the Village.  JCs are usually past 11-year old delegates, although many who have not been past Village delegates have been selected because of their active involvement in MOSAIC (formerly Local Work).

Junior Counselors are able to relate to both children and the adults and to act as a link between them.  In the Village, the JCs are an important part of leaders’ group, performing specific duties and contributing to the planning and operation of the daily activities.  JCs participate in leaders’ meetings and lead activities.

The qualities for suitable JCs are:

·          A genuine love for children and enjoyment in working with them

·          Ability to work with and gain the respect of both adults and children

·          A liking for Village life and enjoyment of Village activities

·          Open, inquiring personalities and good communication skills

·          A desire to further personal knowledge and ability in Village leadership techniques

·          Active involvement in Local Work and Junior Branch
